Getting your funeral plans in order allows you and your loved ones peace of mind, knowing you have taken care of details and made your wishes known. Many times, however, there are more details than you realized, and it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Not to worry — that’s why we’re here! With this list of things to consider when preplanning, you can rest assured you’ve covered all your bases:

The type of service you want

There are all kinds of funeral services to choose from, so spend some time thinking about what you might prefer. Perhaps you’d like a funeral service followed by a burial, cremation, or a reception. Maybe you’d rather have a graveside service. Would you like visitations? Do you have special religious traditions or a certain location in mind? You can customize services pretty much however you like, so if you have other ideas, just ask!

Your final resting place

You’ll need to choose a casket or urn, whether you want to be in a cemetary or vault, or have your ashes scattered in the locations you most loved. Do you have a funeral home in mind? What would you like written on you head stone? Think about these options so your loved ones will know what to do when the time comes.

The people you’d like involved and in what way

Who would you like to officiate your service; serve as pallbearers; deliver eulogies; and participate in the service by reading or singing?

What you want included

You can pre-select prayers, poems, songs, hymns, readings, where you’d like donations to be given, and what type of flowers you prefer so your family is able to do everything as you wished.

Who would you like to be there?

Consider who you want notified other than family, such as groups, associations, or clubs you belong to, sports teams, coworkers and friends your family may not know. Delegate  who should do the contacting, and to make things super simple, provide an organized contact list!

Communication & Appreciation

Prepare your obituary or list things you’d like included to make it easy on your loved ones during their time of grief. You can pre-order thank you cards, as well, to let everyone know how much their support of your family is appreciated.

Legal Paperwork

This is all very important to have in order. Be sure to prepare your will, name an executor and give your executor a copy of your will. Also, designate a Power of Attorney, and it helps to make a list of all accounts you have and information for each, including bank and credit cards, utilities and other services for which you are subscribed.

Keeping all of this in mind will help you make sure you don’t miss a thing! Of course, we are always here for you, too, if you have any questions or need us for any reason. We will help make your celebration of life everything you want it to be and the service just as you wish!
